Don’t get me wrong, the concept of Ronald McDonald House Charities is an amazing one. My family has benefited from them and it is not something we’ll ever forget. What I don’t like is that my house has a Ronald McDonald flavor going on and it irks me every time I pull up to the house. Someone in the house’s past decided that yellow and red blinds would be a smashing idea for the bedrooms. I’ll never understand why. Here is an artist’s rendition of the issue.
I was living my nightmare everyday when I came home from work. When my roommate moved out earlier this year, his room was left as he left it. Emptyish. Slowly I started peeking in there (and admittedly throwing extra house stuff in there) and thinking that it would make a lovely guest room.
Because I’m insane, I made a mental checklist of all the things that would have to happen in the room for me to be satisfied:
- Take down blinds and put up some classy window treatments (maybe just curtains)
- Shampoo the life out of the carpet (he was very clean, but all the carpet in the house is detestable)
- Take down wallpaper
- Paint the room something modern and subtle
- Add storage and furniture for guests
- Remove wobbly desk
- Replace/update light fixture
Good news! I took down the offensive blinds!
So now my list looks like this:
Take down blinds andput up some classy window treatments (maybe just curtains)- Shampoo the life out of the carpet (he was very clean, but all the carpet in the house is detestable)
- Take down wallpaper
- Paint the room something modern and subtle
Add storageand furniture for guestsRemove wobbly deskReplace/update light fixture
The rest of the house had some interesting window treatments as well. My BF’s mom made all the curtains and I think they were well suited to the previous tenants (a man and his sons), but we needed something more fresh. I can’t even explain the aluminum blinds in the living room. No words.
Any thoughts on the curb appeal of your home? AND does anyone have any advice about bushes or plants I can put in my front yard that my dog’s urine won’t kill? It’s becoming an issue.
